Difference Between Part-Time and Full-Time Employment

A full-time employment is an employment in which an employee is required to work from 32 to 40 hours a week. The number of hours for which a person is required to work in a week is usually defined by individual employers.

What Differentiate Full-Time and Part-Time Employment

One major factor that differentiates full-time and part-time employment is the hours of work. While a full-time employee is required to work 40 hours a week, a part-time person is required to work less than 40 hours a week, though this varies with states. 

Other factors include the benefits and manners of payment, which is whether salaried or paid hourly. And, in that, full-time employees are paid a fixed amount of money, while part-time workers are paid based on the number of hours worked.

Another difference is in the area of benefits enjoyed by both forms of employment. As for full-time employees, they’re entitled to certain benefits such as paid vacation days, medical insurance, retirement plans, dental, vision insurance, and career advancement opportunities. In the case of part-time employees, they don’t have access to any of these benefits.
