Termination of Employment

Termination is an operation of being fired from your job. Being terminated from your work means that you don’t work inside the company or the organization anymore.

What are the types of termination of employment?

There are two types from terminations:

1Involuntary: The termination of employment becomes accidental when the employer terminates an employee.  It might happen if the organization eliminates or lay off employees due to circumstances which are beyond the control of the employee.

What are the steps of termination of employment?

1-Let the employee know where they stand

You have to take notes so that you can include detailed information on problems such as customer concerns, disrespectful conduct at meetings missed deadlines, or failure to reach sales goals. 2-Develop improvement plan and timeline

You should develop an improvement plan with the employee and create an action plan, set realistic goals that are measurable.

3-Prepare documentation

Have the documentation or the paperwork available if the employee fails to change and to be fired. You must prepare a written termination notice and decide if a notice period is required.

Calculate the appropriate severance depending on the employee’s total pay received after termination. When you have an employee contract, it is a good idea to verify whether a termination clause settles the issue.

The severance depends on various factors including the circumstances surrounding the hiring and dismissal, the age and experience of the employee, the job held, and the duration of the service with the company.

The severance can never be less than the minimum. So checking with lawyer or human resources professional is also preferable.

4-Hold a face-to-face meeting

When you terminate an employee, never do this by e-mail or through phone it must be face to face.

5-Allow the employee to leave with dignity

Depending on the case, the employee can be asked to quit work immediately after the dismissal or be forced to work a period of the termination notice.

You will ensure that the fired employee can leave with dignity. There is typically no excuse for example to profit a leaving employee from personally packing up his or her belonging and saying goodbye to colleagues and there is definitely no need under normal circumstances for a security guard or supervisor to have someone escorted to the entrance.
