Power BI Tutorial for Beginners

What is Microsoft Power BI?

Microsoft Power BI is a business intelligence platform that provides non-technical business users with tools for data aggregation, analysis, visualization, and data sharing. Power BI’s user interface is fairly intuitive for users who are familiar with Excel, and its deep integration with other Microsoft products makes it a very versatile self-service tool that requires little early training.

Uses of Power BI

Microsoft Power BI is used to find insights into the data of an organization. Power BI can help connect disparate data sets, convert and clean data into a data model, and create charts or graphs to provide data visuals. All of this can be shared with other users of Power BI within the organization.

Power BI data models can be used in several ways for organizations, including telling stories through charts and data visualizations, and looking at “what if” scenarios within the data. Power BI reports can also answer questions in real-time and help with forecasting to ensure that departments comply with business metrics.

Power BI may also provide administrators or managers with executive dashboards, allowing management more insight into how the departments or projects are doing.

Features of Power BI

Microsoft has added and continues to add a number of data analytics features to Power BI since its inception. Some of the most important features are as follows:

Quick Insights: This feature allows users to create data subsets, and to apply analytics to that information automatically.

Artificial Intelligence: Users can access Power BI image recognition and text analytics, use automated machine learning capabilities to create machine learning models, and integrate with Azure Machine Learning.

Hybrid deployment support: This feature provides built-in connectors that enable Microsoft, Salesforce, and other vendors to connect Power BI tools to a number of different data sources.

Modeling view: This allows users to divide complex data models into separate diagrams by subject area, multi-select objects and set common properties, view and change properties in the properties section, and set display folders to make it easier to access complex data models.
